Cosmopolitan Casino to invest over $100 million via guest room upgrade

A Las Vegas casino located on The Strip is preparing to be the next venue to refresh its property in order to see even more tourist visits. The Cosmopolitan has plans to spend $100 million to upgrade guest rooms, with this being the first major renovation of the venue in close to seven years. The high-rise casino will gut the 2,895 guest rooms, creating revamped spaces for guests to enjoy.

According to the Las Vegas Review Journal, the casino began the upgrade in June with the Boulevard Tower and will have this renovation completed by the end of the year. In January, the Chelsea Tower will be subject to renovations which should be completed later on in 2018.

Senior Vice President of Strategy and Business Development for the Cosmopolitan, Patrick Nichols, stated that the rooms will be stripped down to drywall and concrete flooring. With the first stage, the property should have fully renovated rooms by December of next year. New furniture will be added along with fixtures, iPads and 65-inch televisions.

The iPads can be used by guests to order room service, fresh towels and other amenities via housekeeping. The tablet can also be used to control the lighting and television. More features are expected to be added to the iPad later on.

With the room upgrades including technology, Nichols stated that the amount spent should be significantly above $100 million. The venue was very deliberate in their choosing of the room design, according to Nichols. Early last year, the Cosmopolitan asked 20 companies to provide designs, narrowing down their choices to eight then four companies. $2.5 million was then spent to build model rooms that officials used to be able to narrow down their choice of which design to go with.

The new room renovation comes at a time when the venue just completed a multi-million dollar project where 21 concrete shells located on the top floors of the Boulevard Tower were changed to penthouses.
